We are always happy to bring news about online gambling reaching new corners of the world. This time it is a European nation that has decided to open its doors to our industry beginning next year. Lithuania is already setting in motion the steps required to introduce online gambling to their economy and culture during 2014. Keep on reading to find out how the country plans to introduce online gambling to their current lifestyle and enjoy the revenue it will generate.

The country has plans to develop regulation through the Gambling Supervisory Authority and use ISP blocking to prevent unlawful operators to offer online casino services within the contry's boundaries. Something really interesting is how the Lithuanian authorities are going about tackling illegal online gambling services providers. This is evidence to how serious their plans are to introduce a legit form of entertainment to their citizens.

“The Communications Regulatory Authority said that it would cost a lot [to block a domain] and it’s very complicated. But we have Estonia’s example – the Estonians said that it’s not a cure-all solution. There is a black list, they are tracking those companies and blocking them. As far as the results are concerned, 66 percent have not even noticed that such a measure is being taken. Another 19 percent circumvent the law and 16 percent do not register since they are aware that they will be blocked,” Deputy Finance Minister Vytautas Galvonas said.

This is one of the smartest ways for any country to generate extra revenue as well as offer a monitored form of gambling to their citizens. Unlawful gambling operators have plagued the world and built a bad reputation for our industry, so any country looking into legalizing the activity should definitely attempt to block them from scamming customers and harming families and people. All the progress that has been made in the United States with Delaware, Nevada, and New Jersey legalizing gambling, granting online casino licenses to reputable operators and setting everything on track so that this can become a reality has been exciting enough so far. However, realizing that the world is opening itself to our industry is inspiring because gambling has struggled with breaking walls all around the world for over a decade. We wish Lithuania the best of luck and we will keep you updated on what is to come.
