One manner in which online casino software providers make their games interesting is by combining the basics of two games categories into a single product. Playtech offers an online casino game titled Tequila Poker in its portfolio that does just that. It is a mix of hi lo games and casino poker. It challenges the player because he has to select one of the options before seeing all the cards.

Tequila Poker is played with a single standard deck. The player places the ante wager to start the game and clicks the deal button. He is dealt four cards face up. After seeing these cards the player has to make one of three choices. He can play High Tequila or play Tequila Poker or fold. If the player folds he will lose the ante wager. If the player decides to continue with the game he will have to place a second wager equal to the ante wager. He will be dealt two more cards face up. Depending on the chosen game, the five best cards out of six make up the final hand.

High Tequila wins if the hand value of the final hand is 46 or more. The valuation of the cards is similar to blackjack. The number cards are valued at their face value, the picture cards are valued at 10 and the ace is always valued as 11. The lowest card is discarded and the five highest cards make up the final hand. The individual card values of this hand are totaled to give the final hand value. If the hand value is 46 or more, the ante wager pays out at 1 to 1 and the second bet pays out as per the High Tequila payout table. A final hand value of 46 pays at 1 to 1. The highest possible total in High Tequila is 54, consisting of four aces and a 10 value card. This pays 200 to 1.

In Tequila Poker, the objective is to make the highest possible five card poker hand. This is done automatically by the software. The sixth card is discarded. Tequila Poker wins if the poker hand is aces or better. If the player does not get a winning hand then he loses both bets. If the player gets a winning hand, the ante wager pays at 1 to 1 and the second bet pays according to the Tequila Poker payout table. Aces or better pays at 1 to 1 and royal flush pays 200 to 1.

Players must not make the initial choice based on gut feeling. There are a number of strategies that have been devised for increasing the average return to the player in the long run. For newbie players the basic strategy described below will be useful, especially because it is one of the simplest strategies available. If the first four cards dealt show any pair, or four cards to any flush or straight the player should opt for the Tequila Poker bet. If the highest three cards have a total value of 28 or more then the player should opt for the High Tequila bet. If both conditions are met the player can make any choice. If none of the conditions are met the player should fold. Tequila Poker is live at all Playtech online casinos like Bet365 Casino, Omni Casino and Circus Casino.
